Acer - japanese maples - are deciduous shrubs and trees. Often palmatley lobed leaves with fantastic foliage colour all year round. Small flowers are followed by characteristic winged fruit. They are very easy to grow, don't need to be pruned. Like to be planted in acidic peaty soils. They look lovely planted on their own, in a pot or a mixed flower border.
